The Sherman Firefly was a British conversion of the American M4 Sherman. To counter German Panthers and Tigers, the British installed the powerful 17‑pounder anti‑tank gun. The VC variant was based on the Sherman V (M4A4) and saw action from 1944 onward in Normandy, France, Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany. Dutch forces also operated the Firefly after the war within the Royal Netherlands Army.
