Why this kit?
The Tatra 57 Assault Detachment Light Car (China, 1938) is ideal for model builders who enjoy interwar vehicles, unique foreign deployments, and detailed small‑scale kits. The combination of its historically intriguing use in China and the characteristic Tatra engineering makes this an eye‑catching project for any modeller.
History
The Tatra 57 was developed in the 1930s by the Czechoslovak manufacturer Tatra, renowned for its innovative engineering and distinctive backbone chassis. Its lightweight design, paired with an air‑cooled boxer engine and robust construction, made the vehicle highly reliable on poorly maintained roads and in a wide range of climates.
In the years leading up to and during the Second Sino‑Japanese War (1937–1945), several Tatra 57 vehicles found their way to China. There, they were used by staff and communications detachments that required light, agile vehicles for transport and coordination tasks. By 1938, the Tatra 57 primarily served in a supporting role rather than on the front lines.
This fascinating historical background makes this kit a must‑have addition to your modelling stash.
