The Fieseler Fi 156C-2 Storch was a specialized military version of the famous German liaison and reconnaissance aircraft, developed for operations where exceptional STOL (short take-off and landing) performance was essential. The C-series constituted the primary production line of the Storch during the war, with the C-2 variant specifically adapted for reconnaissance and liaison duties, and equipped for operations in the demanding conditions of the front line. Its remarkable STOL capabilities allowed the aircraft to take off and land over extremely short distances—often from rough grass strips or improvised airfields close to the front. Featuring a large, highly efficient wing, fixed landing gear, and a powerful Argus As 10 engine, the Storch could fly at very low speeds while maintaining excellent handling characteristics.

The Fi 156C-2 was used extensively by the Luftwaffe and other German military units throughout the Second World War. The aircraft performed a wide range of roles, including reconnaissance, artillery spotting, communications, personnel transport, and command liaison. Its ability to operate independently of conventional airfields made it particularly valuable in rapidly evolving combat situations, where commanders and observers required a reliable aircraft capable of reaching small, forward-positioned locations. The Storch also became well-known for its capacity to evacuate personnel from confined areas. C-series aircraft saw service on the Eastern and Western Fronts, as well as in the Mediterranean theater and North Africa. Its distinctive appearance and extraordinary flight characteristics at low speeds made the Fi 156 one of the most recognizable German light aircraft of the war.
