The M24 Chaffee was used by the British in limited numbers toward the end of the Second World War, where it was designated the "Light Tank M24." The British Army received a total of approximately 300 vehicles, most of which arrived in Europe in 1945. Due to its late arrival, the Chaffee saw only limited frontline service and could not fully replace the older M3/M5 Stuart. However, with its 75mm gun, good off-road performance, and significantly improved observation and targeting optics, the M24 represented a substantial advancement over the Stuart. The British vehicles were primarily employed by reconnaissance and armored units. Following the war, the M24 remained in service with British units for only a short time before being replaced by more modern vehicles. For scale modeling, British M24s are particularly interesting due to their specific British markings, their standard U.S.-pattern configuration, and, in some cases, modified radio and antenna equipment.
