The M10A1 Tank Destroyer was developed by the United States during World War II as part of the American tank destroyer program. Unlike the standard M10, the M10A1 was built on the M4A3 Sherman chassis and used a different engine configuration while retaining the powerful 3 inch anti tank gun. Entering service in 1943, the vehicle was employed by American forces during operations in Europe.
A number of M10A1 vehicles were modified for specialized battlefield tasks, including the installation of the M1 dozer blade. These conversions allowed crews to clear obstacles, prepare defensive positions, improve routes, and support combat engineering operations close to the front lines. While less famous than some other Allied armored vehicles, the M10A1 played an important supporting role in the Allied advance across Europe.
