The V3000S/SSM Maultier was a German half‑track truck developed to overcome the severe mobility issues faced on the Eastern Front. Mud, snow and poor roads made standard trucks nearly useless. By fitting a tracked rear suspension onto the Ford V3000S chassis, the Wehrmacht created a rugged, reliable and cost‑effective transport vehicle.

This particular variant, featuring a tall cargo bed and tarpaulin, was used to transport ammunition, food, medical supplies and other essential goods. The raised cargo bed provided better protection from harsh weather, crucial for operations in winter and muddy terrain.

The V3000S/SSM Maultier was used for Logistical support and operations on the Eastern Front, such as in Ukraine, Belarus and later Western Europe. Mainly during Winter operations when wheeled trucks would often fail.
