Why this kit?
The Riich 72002 M109A2 155mm Self‑Propelled Howitzer in 1:72 scale is a highly detailed model kit for enthusiasts of modern artillery, NATO vehicles and Cold War military equipment. Thanks to its precise parts and realistic design, this kit is an ideal choice for builders who value accuracy and fine detail.
The M109A2 has a rich operational history and fits perfectly into dioramas or collections focused on NATO artillery. It is also an appealing subject for Dutch model builders, as the Royal Netherlands Army operated several variants of the M109 family.
History
The M109 series has been one of the most widely used self‑propelled howitzers within NATO since the 1960s. The A2 variant was introduced in the 1970s and featured improvements such as a longer barrel, increased ammunition capacity and enhanced reliability. The M109A2 saw service in numerous exercises and conflicts, including operations in Europe during the Cold War and later in the Middle East.
The Royal Netherlands Army made extensive use of the M109 family; according to some sources, 86 M109A2 units were built for the Netherlands. The M109 series was eventually replaced by the Panzerhaubitze 2000.
