The Panther was developed by Germany in response to the Soviet T 34, which proved highly effective during the early years of the war on the Eastern Front. The first Panthers entered combat in 1943. The Ausf.G variant entered production in 1944 and became the most numerous Panther version built during the war. It saw action on both the Eastern and Western Fronts and was respected for its powerful 75 mm gun and strong sloped armor.
