History
The YPR-765 is a light armored fighting vehicle. It was the standard infantry fighting vehicle for the Dutch armored infantry and was intended for use in the front lines to move infantry quickly and securely. The Belgian army also purchased more than a thousand of these vehicles. The crew consists of three people: a vehicle commander, a driver, and a gunner. The vehicle is capable of handling virtually all terrain conditions and is amphibious. The YPR-765 PRI and YPR-765 PRCO-B are capable of operating alongside Leopard 2 tanks.
It replaced the AMX-VCI and YP-408 of the Royal Netherlands Army and entered service in 1977. The Dutch YPR-765s were later replaced by the CV90, Fennek and Boxer.
The variant in this kit, the YPR-765 PRI (Pantser Rups Infanterie) .50 APC, has a .50-caliber M2 HB machine gun on an M113-type cupola in place of a turret. This variant has a crew of three plus seven passengers (normally only five) and a outward-facing bench seats in the rear compartment.
In early April 2023, the Dutch Ministry of Defence reported it had donated 196 YPR-765s to Ukraine during the course of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. By 20 May 2024, the Ministry of Defence had delivered 207 vehicles with more reportedly on the way. As of 29 September 2024, the Dutch Ministry of Defence reported a total of 353 units delivered and pledged.
