History

The M1131 Fire Support Vehicle (FSV) is a variant of the Stryker family designed to provide advanced surveillance, target acquisition, identification, designation, and communications. It enables Brigade Combat Teams (BCTs) to deliver “first-round” fire-for-effect capability. The vehicle integrates the M707 Striker Mission Equipment Package, which includes systems for precision targeting and battlefield coordination.

The Fire Support Team (FIST) typically consists of a Fire Support Officer (FSO), a Fire Support Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO), and a Fire Support Specialist. Equipped with the FSV, the team has the ability to designate targets with a combat laser for precision artillery or air-delivered munitions. The FIST assists the company commander in planning, integrating, coordinating, and executing all available supporting fires during tactical operations. It serves as the commander’s primary fire support coordinator and provides a direct link to battalion-level indirect fire support systems.
