The Tatra 27b was a medium truck originally produced in Czechoslovakia during the 1930s. During World War II, many examples were operated by German organizations, including the Deutsche Reichsbahn. As fuel shortages became increasingly severe, numerous vehicles were converted to run on wood gas. These systems generated combustible gas from wood or charcoal, allowing vehicles to continue operating despite limited fuel supplies. Although wood gas engines produced less power than conventional fuel engines, they played an important role in keeping transport networks moving.
