The LT 40, originally known as the ČKD LTP, was developed in the late 1930s by the Czechoslovak company ČKD. The vehicle was initially designed for export to Peru but later found a place in European military history. During the Slovak National Uprising of 1944, several LT 40 tanks were used by resistance forces fighting against German occupation and the collaborationist government. Although lightly armored, the tank provided valuable support to infantry units during the fighting.
