The Volkswagen Kübelwagen Typ 82 was developed in the late 1930s under the direction of Ferdinand Porsche. Entering large scale production in 1940, it became one of the primary utility vehicles of the German Wehrmacht during World War II. Its lightweight construction, air cooled engine, and simple yet reliable design made it highly effective in a wide range of environments. More than 50,000 vehicles were produced and served across nearly every major theater of the war, including North Africa, Italy, Western Europe, and the Eastern Front.
The Kübelwagen was used for staff transport, communications, reconnaissance, and general troop movement. While primarily operated by Germany, surviving vehicles were later used in several European countries after the war.
Thanks to its distinctive appearance and historical importance, the Typ 82 remains one of the most iconic military vehicles of the Second World War.
