The M10 Tank Destroyer was developed by the United States in 1942 to counter the growing threat posed by German armored forces. Built on the proven M4 Sherman chassis, it was equipped with a powerful 3 inch gun capable of engaging enemy tanks at significant ranges. The M10 served with American, British, Canadian, and Free French forces in North Africa, Italy, and Northwest Europe.
Late production vehicles incorporated several improvements based on battlefield experience. More than 6,000 M10s were produced during the war. The American tank destroyer doctrine emphasized mobility, firepower, and rapid response to enemy armor.
Thanks to its combat effectiveness and widespread service, the M10 became one of the most important tank destroyers of the Second World War.
